  1. I have an avi file that's in two parts, in PAL fromat. The audio is VBR with different bitrates for each part so I can't just append the 1'st file to the second, in Virtualdub. So, I loaded the first part into Virtualdub, set video to direct stream copy, set audio to full processing, and saved the audio as an uncompressed wav file, then disabled the original audio stream, added the new wav file, keeping video set to direct stream copy and created a new avi file. Playback was fine, audio was in sync. I did the same thing with the second part, and playback on the computer was good, then I used Virtualdub to append the two files together. I played back the appended file, on the computer, using vcl media player and it was all good. I used nerovision express to convert the avi files to dvd format. Upon playback to the video in my standalone dvd player, the first half of the movie playedback perfectly, audio was in sync, then shortly into the second half of the video, that's where the sync problem happens. Same thing happens if I open the vob files in a software dvd player. Could someone possibly tell me why, and if there is a way to fix it. Thank you.

Encode each AVI to DVD specs MPG separately.
Author with TMPGEnc DVD Author as 2 parts of the same title.
Remove chapter mark inserted by TDA at the start of part 2.

  3. Hey, so what you're saying is, I have to re-ecode each avi file to a dvd compliant mpeg file, just use the standard dvd template in TMPGEnc? I thought Nerovision express does that, it's worked with other videos I've run through it, some in PAL format. Why do you think this one's giving me grief? Thanks.

    Is the avi xvid ?
If you open the file in virtualdub, do you see 'b-frame decoder lag' in the first frame ?

If so, you will also have this problem at the join point, which can throw out audio sync. The way I get around this is to use FFDShow and avisynth, and load the avi files not as avisource, but as DirectShowSource. FFDShow does not suffer the lag problem. I also used VDub to save out a single, joined audio file (in my case, AC3), and served just the video through my encoder. Perfect sync throughout a single video title.
