    Hi there...Last July I rented a movie named TAXI starring Gisele Bünchen. I noticed that the subtitles smoothly fade in and out and not simply appear and dissapear. Does any of you know a software that is able to do that? I use Sony's DVDA to insert subtitles, but this one definitely can't.
    Thanks in advance

  2. Programs like Vegas can be used to insert subtitles that smoothly fade in and out. I use Vegas for adding text to avi files

  4. Do you mean regular subtitles that DVD player shows at real time or those are inserted previously on video (like final credits)?

    Thanks for the input.....but I was just wondering how I can do that with Vegas and how to import the file to DVDA?

    Anyone else please? Thanks in advance.

  6. Since DVDA does not support graphical subtitle formats you can't create the subs with another program, or edit them to achieve the fading effect.

    The bottom line is you can't do it with DVDA.

    The way its done is by simply creating fade in sub pics. Say you want a sub to appear at 1:00. Add that same sub pic in several places over the previous half second or so before this. Then just set the opacity to first one very low, the next one a little higher and so on until you get to the main sub which is 100% opaque. During playback the sub will appear to fade in. Do the same at the end of the sub. Or you can do sub effects like the ones on Hellboy where they sort of strobe in and out.

    Does your authoring software not let you adjust the opacity of the subpicture? That's all you need really.

    Put your video on a track. add text into the track, and you should see four corners on the track for text. The topleft corner affects subtitle fading in, and the top right corner affects subtitle fading out.

    Thanks to all...

    Adam, I don't think it can be done with DVDA. It has some transparency buttons...I don't know. DVDA has 4 config options for each subtitle:
    1.fill color;
    2.anti-alias color;
    3.outline/background color and
    4.transparent color (used to paint the transparent portions of subpictues and menu buttons.
    So I guess it cannot be done with DVDA.

    Put your video on a track. add text into the track, and you should see four corners on the track for text. The topleft corner affects subtitle fading in, and the top right corner affects subtitle fading out.
    - Ok, I understand, as we usually do with simple Titles....Man, it's going to be a hard work to do this for all those subs! But then how do you export this to DVDA? - I still don't kow how to do it!
    Thanks in advance

    well, i actually dunno. If you wanna have them become selectable fading subtitles, I doubt thats possible ( I've never tried it, never seen non-hardsubbed file that can do that)

    If you want to make it HARDSUBS, then you will need about 2-3 hours of time on your hand depending on the amount of video your encoding.

    IF using Vegas:

    After putting in all the text, select File > Render As > (Name of file.AVI)

    then encode it to mpeg 2 with tmpgenc or nerovision express or other such video encoding software.

    I've never done softsubs (I think thats what its called when selectable subs fade or do effects or move position and such) so try searchin the site for tools or guide that help with softsubs.
