Is it possible to have multiple vcd's on a dvd media to be played on a stand alone dvd player?

No, but VCD mpg can easily be authored as DVD. Easiest is to use TMPGEnc DVD Author, which takes care of resampling the audio from VCD 44.1 to DVD 48 kHz, the only thing needed to make a VCD mpg compatible with the DVD standard, and can create a "simple" menu. You get 7-8 CD's worth of VCD on a DVD.
