  1. OK.... I bought myself an external DVR-110D with the hope of not only increasing my burn speed, but saving wear and tear on my old iMac 800 mgz G4. Well..... I got half of that. The burn speed is horrible. I tested the new doohickey with a TDK 4X disc with a movie that's only 3.3 Gigs. It's been well over an hour, and a half and it's still not done burning/verifying. Any solutions/recommendations/advise, y'all?

    Thanks,

  2. Is it in a firewire or USB2 case? If firewire, do you know the controller chip? Some brands aren't capable of 16x transfers or might require some firmware updating. If you bought the drive already assembled as an extrnal, it's hard to believe that resellers wouldn't know how to bundle it at this stage of the game.

Of course 4x media will only burn at 4x, but it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Assuming it was mutiplexed already. Clikcing Burn in iDVD for example can lead to a 2-4 hour wait before the drive actually burns anything.

  3. Here're the specs as per the packing list:
    Bytecc/Pioneer DVR 110 16x6x8x16x8x8x DVD-/+RW/DL
External USB 2.0/Firewire/Combo DVD Burner, Black
    CodeDVR110-ME340B

When I booted up Toast it read the burner as a 110D, and not a 110. Is there supposed to be a major difference? Or is it my software?

I'm using the latest Toast Titanium v.6. with a firewire connection. I placed the settings at "Best" for burn speed. That was at around 9PM. It's now midnight, and it's still not done burning. Really beginning to piss me off, here.

  4. You have a 110D. The 110 isn't available in the US yet 9assumingyou're in the US). But the specs are the same; the 110 has RAM writing mode.

It's still not clear if your giving Toast a completed VIdeo_TS folder or are askingit to multiplex video footage. If it's the latter, it can take a few hours to do so. If you've givin it a ready to burn set of files, then something is amiss, possibly the firewire bridge chip.

  5. I was targeting a ready to burn set of video_ts, and audio_ts files. No sweat there. I finally got it going. I'm just going to have to have a friend update the firmware, as well. Seems that it's running on 1.08, and there's firmware for 1.22. <<shrug>> That's what I get for being a major moron when it comes to compooterz. ;D Thanks, Will. I really appreciate all of your feedback, and advice.
