  1. I've been told by a friend that Pioneer is now facing a class action lawsuit against its DVD writers, both in terms of the reliability of the product and the customer service when a drive goes bad. I've found similar lawsuits against Pioneer, but apparently only for set-top recorders.

My friend also says that the DVR-106 is showing reliability problems. This concerns me greatly, since I have two of them and have recommended them to people. Am I a sucker? Am I living a lie? Is my friend right in saying the Toshiba DVD writers are now superior in quality to the Pioneers?

All I can go by is my own experience. I have a 106 and a Pioneer set-top, and I haven't had a single problem with either one. That's more than I can say for any other writer I've had, except my nec 3520, which also has never had a problem.

If you have 2 106's and recommend them to other people, I would guess you haven't had any problems either.

Never had any problems with my DVR-320, and I've had it almost 2 years. Anybody have any links to the lawsuit?

  4. I've used both 106 and A06 for over two years and both have been extremely reliable drives. I'd like to see what kind of complaint people have on this drive.

A "class action suit" only takes a greedy lawyer and a willing judge. Often the goal is a "settlement" to avoid legal defense costs where the greedy lawyer walks with 50-70% in cash and the wronged "customer" gets the right to mail in for a 5% off coupon for his next purchase.

The mafia used to call this scam "protection".

It seems to apply to DVD players, doesn't mention burners.

If you own a Pioneer DVD player that will not play certain discs, or plays discs with lip synch problems, lock-ups, freezing, pixelization, skipping, or other video or audio problems, your player might suffer from the incompatibility defect alleged by the consumers in these cases
Most of my players seem to have those defects at times, though none of them is a Pioneer.

EDIT: My observation is from the link from 888888. There may be other suits that cover burners, Sorry.
