  1. Hi,

I'm considering buying a TV recording H/W for my PC and I'm interested
in Hauppauge's PVR product. As I approached a computer shop in my city,
the sales recommended me WinTV-PVR-150 and said this model is more
    updated than WinTV-PVR-250 & WinTV-PVR-350. Is that true ?

From Hauppauge's home site, I see no significant difference among the
3 models. Any users of Hauppauge could tell me the strength & weakness
of these 3 models in terms of performance & reliability ?

    :P

The WinTV-PVR-350 has FM radio and Video out.

The WinTV-PVR-250 does not have the 2 above features but is cheaper.

The WinTV-PVR-150 is the latest model and I have read reports that it
    has a audio bug.

I have been using the WinTV-PVR-250 for two years with excellent results
using the DVD Standard mode for capturing. I keep up with the updates from the mfg. as they are released. The 250 & 350 use a hardware decoder that is excellent.

Yes the wintv pvr 250 and 350 have been around for awhile. I have had mine for 3 or 4 years now. I love the quality. Its mpeg only which is fine for me. I wouldn't like having to convert to mpeg2 after capturing anyway (though I know the avi cards can capture in mpeg as well).

By all means you're getting a good card if you get the 250 or 350 model.

The PVR150 is indeed the newer version (read: cheaper design).
There is also the PVR150MCE which is almost the same but has a radio and easier audio connections.

Problem is there are some serious issues with those newer cards.

Compared with your professional users, my PC configuration is quite "old".

I used Althon 1700+ CPU w/ 256MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce2 DDR card (GeForce2 GTS chipset, 64MB on board RAM, BIOS version 3.15.0104). My city adopted PAL-I TV standard. With this configuration will it be better to use older 350 model instead of 150 in terms of getting best AV quality without loading too much on my PC (though I think the card should handle most of the jobs with it's onboard H/W) ?

PS: Currently I used KWorld MPEG TV (PCI) card which performance is terribly bad

I had a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150 for about 2 weeks and it sucked.

The image was mostly good but it had a strange effect on bright white spots (making them too bright) and it also has a BIG audio defect UNLESS you are using the TV TUNER input.

Audio bug aside using the TV TUNER input ain't no big deal if you are doing mostly cable/satellite TV stuff BUT the "too bright white" issue is what really drove me insane.

I've heard some say that the 150 makes a sharper image than the 250/350 models but I've seen still images and short video clips made with the 250 and it looked fine to me sharpness wise.
