I want to join 2x700MB .mkv files and I have tries using virtual dub and DivXtoDVD and both do not recognise the files.

What program do I need to join 2 .mkv files?

mkv is just a container - inside it are probably an avi video stream, single or multiple audio streams, and maybe a subtitle or text file. You can use this - https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=MKVtoolnix, and this -https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=MKVExtractGUI to extract the files, and then you can join them.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I have successfully joined the 2 files with mkvmergegui.

You said that i can extract the video usally .avi from the .mkv container. I tried this and renamed the output to the avi extension but vdub didnt recognise it as a valid avi.

Inside mkvmergegui the video is listed as MPEG-4/ISO/AVC.

I would like to know how to extract this and then convert to DVD or avi. I was wondering if you could help me achieve this?

"probably" was probably not the best choice of words, probably. It's what I usually get. However, if your video is an mpeg-4 stream, then you'd use MKVextractGUI to extract it, and then convert it to dvd-compliance. I've heard that ImToo will convert mpeg-4, but I've never used it, so can't say for sure.

you could try this out - https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=vso_DivXtoDVD. Let me know if it works. This file type is becoming more prevalent in anime dist.

yeah ive tried divxto dvd but it doesent support x264 or mp4.

I renamed to .264 and it plays in media player but its too fast. I dont know of anything that will recognise a .264 file.

    .264 file that would be.
DivXtoDVD should support AVC, but not mkv since libavcodec supports AVC, but libavformat doesn't support mkv.

Anyway you could try AVC2AVI to create an avi from your raw AVC. If you want an avi that is. Could also use mp4box or mp4creator to mux to mp4.

You are able to play raw AVC files? Possible that the file doesn't contain framerate info or that whatever parser you have installed doesn't read the info.

That is because they are command line based. You aren't supposed to just double click.

For mp4box you could use yamb. Don't think that there is any GUI for avc2avi.
