This is maybe a silly question but... is it possible to convert DV material, filmed with a normal mini-DV camcorder, into HDV (High Definition Video) and then author the result to a DVD with any DVD author program (for instance, with DVD-lab (pro))? If yes, what is the software to be used?

    Thanks,

    Mário

It's a wasted effort if you expect to increase quality. You are only upscaling to a larger interlace raster at the same bitrate.*

Your HDTV will upscale to the monitors native format from a 480i input with realtime hardware.

In theory, a non-realtime 480i to progressive software conversion (for LCD or Plasma) may outperform the realtime HDTV scaler-deinterlacer but you may be facing days to weeks of computation with a PC.

    * Vegas 6 will do it if you want.
