    1. Does your DVD player support playing AVI files? Most do not. (AVI sort of = Divx but there are variations; too many to detail in this post.)

    2. Even if the answer to #1 is "yes", what format disc are you burning? (MacOS or MacOS Extended is not supported at all on set-top boxes. ISO9660 probably is supported but your player may only play mpeg1 or mpeg2 on ISO9660...or maybe not; check your player's manual.)

    3. Use Toast 7 which will (usually) take an AVI and convert is to a "regular" DVD which then should play. However, Toast's transcoding is not as clean as VSO's DivxToDVD (free) on a PC. I use both Mac and PC and speak from experience.

    4. In the long run, that Pioneer Divx player (642? I think) for about $60 at Target (and other stores) may be the simplest solution if your intent is to just burn an AVI to an RW disc, watch it, and erase the disc when done.

Good luck and please let us know how it goes.

Yes; use Toast 7. It will convert the file to the proper DVD structure and burn it in one step. Toast will permit you to add a menu if you wish.
