If anyone knows the solution to this, you are BRILLIANT! Ok, I have a digital camera that only takes quicktime .avi files. The .avi files don't play on my Mac. I've tried to open them in Windows Media Player (for Mac) and it doesn't work. What I see is a jarbled movie with sound. I have downloaded .avi to .mov converters and it still doesn't work. Is there a special codec I need? If so, what should I do?

quicktime avi? quicktime = .mov, not .avi.

So it takes MJPEG avi's or what?

All I know is that it's a .avi file with a quicktime icon.
