Is there a camcorder, capable to record DV on anything else, but not tape??? The new "everio" from JVC, do record on HDD, but MPEG only. I'm tired of cleaning video heads, compatibility problems between different brand of tapes and etc. ............. I used to have a RCA PRO Video8 - 1/2 " CCD, 52mm Lens camcorder, 14 years I never clean the video heads and picture was perfect as good as my Digital 8, when played on TV, not to mention that the low light performance was much better!

Not really a camera that records to something other than tape, but the next best thing (other than straight to the PC)

I don't have anything like this mind you, but I sure wish I did (Well it looks like a cool idea anyways)
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

There are a few DVD camcorders on the market that record directly on a DVD disc. I believe Sony and Hitatchi make one. Do a Google search for 'DVD Camcorders' if you are interested.

Thank you for all the answers !!! Ok, now I have idea for the recording module, but what about the camera section? Is there available camera module only with quality optics and firewire out? Like the old pro Panasonic SVHS AG, camera module, SVHS recording deck and etc.
