  1. Hello all,

I have an LG 4040B DVD drive with firmware A304 and am using Nero to burn audio CDS.

I am having a problem with the CDs not being read in some players (get a bad disc from my wife's ford focus cd player) as well as the CDs skipping.

The burn seems to go ok and i tried to do a verify as well, but the problem is still there.

I have tried different CD brands (HP, Maxell, Memorex) and they all do the same thing.

    Any suggestions ?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Do store-bought CDs skip or not play in the Focus? If you've tried all those brands, then it sounds like a burner problem. Any friends who can loan you a burned CD from their computer? Got a burner at work or school you can try?

Have you tried burning with Itunes? Thats what I use, and they all seem to play okay in Ford Windstar. Probably not software though.

  3. Store bought CDs are fine as well as burnt cds that were not made on this burner.

I can burn DVDs without issue, it just seems to be audio discs. I thought it might be hardware related too but couldn't figure out a way to prove it.

Could it be the IDE cable is causing problems? or the CD drive that is daisy chained to the burner?

Burn at a slower speed. Try 4X - it's slow, but the results will probably work.

Try another media manufacturer, not brand (HP, Maxell and Memorex might well be the same manufacturer). Also, at least some car CD players never promise to play CD-R or RW at all, so if it does, see it as a bonus. Take a look at the manual for your car player. If it doesn't state that it plays CD-R/RW, well, it may just be the way it is. Try RW discs too; IIRC from my VCD days, RW is more like pressed discs than -R

  7. Thanks for the comments so far. Here are some answers to your questions :

These discs play fine in my PC and in my home stereo, it just in both my wife's car and mine. in her car, she'll get bad disc, in mine, it will play, but will skip and stutter.
But both cars can play discs burned on my older burner (which was in a different PC).

I have tried burning at lower and higher speeds and it doesn't seem to be speed related.

I'm tempted to disconnect the daisy chained drive to it and see if that is the problem.

Are you trying to overburn the CD? My car's CD won't handle CDs over 80 minutes.

Not trying to be flippant, but why don't you just use your older burner (move it to the new computer)? You know that works...

Can't remeber if Nero does this automatically, with audio CDs, but make sure you finalize the disk.

There is a checkbox that must be set (usually is by default) in the Burn pane of disc properties/settings dialog.
