I have done some researching but I haven't really found a topic on a problem exactly like mine which is why I am posting up.

I am downloading video from my Sony MiniDV camcorder with Windows Movie Maker via a firewire cable and saving the file as a DV-AVI file. Now when I playback that file on my computer it plays just fine, audio, video etc. Now when I run the same file thru VirtualDub so that I can use a deinterlace filter, I save the file using an XviD codec @ 6000kbps, then I playback the file on my computer and the first 12 min of the file plays just fine but then the last 15 min of the file plays with only what I can describe as static. It sounds like the same noise that older tv's make when you turn them on and there is no video connected to the tv and you get snow on the screen and the loud static.

OK now I have also encoded the same file using Tmpeg 4 and with that program I don't get static but the audio is out of sync, meaning that once again half of the video plays correct and the last half plays out of sync.

Anyone have any ideas about this? Is there a certain setting that I need to turn on or off to avoid this problem?

  2. Maybe the indexation of your avi file is broken i don't know precisely

Which version of virtualdub you tried? Anyway it seems that with tmpgenc you have the same problem so there is something wrong with your file.

OK Check this out. I actually got the problem to work by just PLAYING the file. Watch the video that I have attached and see what I am talking about.

    *NOTES ON VIDEO*
Please be sure to turn the volume on your computer down a little because the noise is quite loud.
On the left monitor I have the file open in VDub-MPEG2 v1.6.15 and when I click PLAY INPUT you will notice that that the video plays but the audio is just noise.

Now when I play the SAME VIDEO via WMP 11, you will see that it plays just fine. So what the heck could be causing this?

Also on another note, it seems like I have narrowed down WHEN the video is switching from static to clean audio. When I captured these videos, I used Windows Movie Maker 2 and I used the manual capture option, so as I am watching the video I can hit the start recording button to record video that I want, and then hit stop record when there is video that I don't want. Well it seems like on the parts of the video where I was hitting stop and start capture is where the audio is switching from good audio to static/noise audio as you heard in the video above. So hopefully that might help in figuring out this problem.

Try using WinDV and save the whole file to the hard drive from the DV camera with no interruptions. I suspect it may work fine then. Then edit out the parts you don't want.

You're using different decoders in VirtualDub to play back the audio than you are in WMP.

How do I adjust the decoders?

Also this doesn't just happen when I play the file, it happens when I encode the file as well. So wouldn't the encoder be a problem as well?

Also something else I just tested out, I was able to take this SAME AVI file that doesn't play right in VDub and import it into WMM, convert it to a 2.1mbps WMV file and now the file plays perfect. But now I am stuck with a high compressed file.

So there is no way there is anything wrong with the file because why would WMM be able to handle the file just fine but no other program can? This stuff just isn't making any sense

Alright I solved the problem. This is probably the most RETARDED solution to even think that this would work but it did.

All I did was take the original DV-AVI that Windows Movie Maker created when I captured the video from my camera, I re-imported it into Windows Movie Maker, and then saved the file ONCE AGAIN as a DV-AVI file and now the file works PERFECT. Why it works now I have no clue lol.
