    Hi all!

I have an opportunity to buy a used JVC HRS9600EK S-VHS VCR which the seller claims is a UK model but I can't seem to find any info about this model anywhere on the net. If anyone has used this model or has any info about this model like wether it has any filters or TBC built-in and how good is it then please post a reply with details.

I will appreciate any help. Thanks.

This is a valid model number for a PAL UK machine. It's from the mid 1990s, awesome toy.

It should be the UK version of the USA 9600, which was probably the best VCR built in the entire S-VHS line because of how well built it was, in addition to the quality of the line (TBC, DNR, filters, etc).

    Thanks LS for the feedback.

So the reason for not finding any info about this model on the net must be that it is quite an old model as you said from the mid 90s.

The seller says that it is almost new only slightly used and comes in its original packaging. After you comments I have made up my mind to buy it.

    Thank again.

I would say that there isn't much information on it based on a few facts. As said, this was a top of the line model in the mid 90's. Not may people are willing to buy VCRs that cost what it did when it came out. Pro broadcast studios weren't using them either, they have commercial units for what they do. These VCRs are finding a nice niche here with people who do VHS conversions though. A lot of people here swear by the 9600/9800 series VCR. I have one as well (it's actually a Japanese market version Victor VX-200). I don't recall hearing about any PAL units but then again, I never heard of the Victor VX-200 either until I found it one day here. I'd give serious though to it. At least you'll be able to read your menus without having them translated....

These sorts of units are popular in smaller studios, homebrew and educational facilities, and even cable companies doing work in-house. They are called "prosumer" because it allows consumers to take advantage of professional line features, but without costing pro prices (mostly because ONLY the pro features that are needed are included, not ALL pro features, as many would go unused).

In $USD, these machines sell used for $150-300 range, and then brand new, they often were in the $300-550 range. Lower prices are if you're lucky or buying the next-best line (7000's, SR's). Higher prices are you 9000s and 8000s(UK).
