I've been coming here for about 8 months now, trying to learn all I can about everything, and finally decided to take the plunge into DVD. I bought a Pioneer A03 for $490.00, and I have a source for blank DVD-R 4.7's for $2.85 each. I figured this would probably be the best time to switch!
My roommate went out last night and bought the DVD of Episode I, and of course the first thing I did was throw it in Smart Ripper. The only problem is that it was going to rip about 7 Gigs worth! Now, I know I can rip and reencode the movie, but I don't want to sacrifice the quality. Does anyone know a way to cheat this? Is there anywhere for a consumer to buy anything higher than a 4.7G ? Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated!!!! I expect I'll have issues with this on a lot of films. Is there anyway to narrow this size down by not ripping the extra camera angles and other special features?
Thanx
PS...I do admit that I am new to DVD, however, don't flame me too bad for being an idiot!!!

Remember when the only way to see a movie uncut was to go to the theatre?

Wow, DVD-r for $2.85 each! You gotta hook me up! =)
Anyway, about your question... No, at the moment 4.7 gig is what we're limited to. The only thing you can do is split it into 2 DVD-r and not lose any quality, or re-encode it and lose quality. Hope that helps.

How can you split a DVD, after ripping with SmartRipper, into multiple DVD-R's, with everything, including extra features, working correctly? Is there any software which will do this for you automatically?

I have the same question, I recently prchased an HP DVD 100i DVD Burner. I want to know if there is some what to split these 8 - 9gb dvds up into 2 parts, and maybe add menus and so forth to the second disc. Any way to do this without reencoding?
