    How come when i click on shut down in windows all the others are lit (restart, shut down but standyby is greyed out??) why??

    I *think* it is because your motherboard and/or power supply don't support standby mode.

    I just did a quick google, and it could also be related to your Power Settings in Control Panel, or maybe even your video card.

    nahy not video card cos done it on the same pc with the same installed o/s.
