I've made a movie in studio pro and it turned out to be about 10 gig. It would take too long to recompress all the video tracks, but the only recompression tools i can find only compress down to 4.7.

Is there any programs to do it? Cheers.

Down to 8.7GB..? Is this going to be mastered from DLT?
or are you trying a self burn to DL media?

Anyhow, AFAIK, you can get DVD2ONEX to compress it to anysize, just set the size target under custom size selection,
(User DEFINED) rather than normal (DVD+/- R).

DVD2ONEX works well, but it looks like the DL disk only actually holds 8-8.2 gig!

  5. Just use Toast 7. Much easier and you can save as an image or burn the disc and you don't have to worry about messing with the manual settings in DTOX.

Why are you recommending this software? It doesn't get released to the public (via Roxio's site) until tomorrow. And it won't be in stores for weeks after that.

  7. Are DL discs able to hold 8.5G? I thought the real world size was more like 7.5.

Toast can be pruchsed for download from the Roxio site mentioned elseware on this forum.

  8. Why not recommend it? I've been using it since the upgrade e-mail went out to people a couple weeks ago. Most Toast users have had a chance to buy it if they are registered. Seems like a lot of people on here already have it also.

I could recommend Popcorn for the same thing but, Toast 7 seems to have better options for saving the DL images though.

If someone is going to spend money on only one product, they should get Toast 7 over Popcorn or DTOX because they get the same compression as Popcorn plus all the Toast burn options.

I would have to disagree...Didn't PopCorn have issues
with ArCCos discs ( Hitch, Saw, etc.) and the only
way around these were to use DTOX 1.4.2 to
get the discs to burn correctly?

I'm sorry...but as long as Sony makes ArCCos discs,
you need to have two re-quantumizers, one for
non ArCCos, and one for .

If anything, I'd reccomend Toast for handling quick and easy
DIVX to DVD conversion (becoming more common place)
as well as DL burning, but DTOX for re-quantimizing
or building of folder from Movie Only/Chapter Only,
just because ArCCos is becoming more common.

  11. Popcorn handles ArCCos fine in Full Movie Mode. It also works fine if ArCCos is handled correctly. I can rip a disc with DVD Decrypter and it works fine. That because DVD Decyrpter handles the ArCCos better by removing the bad sectors when ripping.

However, gavinmcnab is using DVDSP to author a disc and just wants to get it down small enough to fit on a DVD+R DL. In that case, Toast or Popcorn would works much better because it is just one step and he doesn't have to try and figure out how big to make the file in DTOX. If he wanted to remove subtitles, audio, etc, then DTOX is great. But in this case, Toast 7 would be the easiest, even over Popcorn.

DVD Decrypter---isn't that a PC Program?

For the novice, I could see Toast 7 being an asset.
But, for MAC users, who are serious about their
*ahem* hobby, I stand by my statement.

I could only get popcorn to compress to 4.7. I'm having toubles getting the dvd2onex files to burn. I've tried them on toast 6 and then took them to a pc and used nero, but neither worked. I might have to just get toast 7 if it makes dl disks easy to do.

Actually DVD2One 1.5 is for windows. The Mac version DVD2OneX 1.5 is an imaginary upgrade I just made up. The point is that Toast 7 was not available to the public.
