Looking to do some voice over work on our vacation DVD this year. Any advice on model/type is greatly appreciated. The budget for this is $75-$100 USD.

Good mics connect with 600 ohm balanced XLR connectors. You will need a small mixer like Behringer Eurorack UB502 to adapt those to a PC line input.

This is an amazing bargain and much better and cheaper than anything you would find at a Radio Shack. $34+shipping leaves you a ~$50 budget for a new or used mic.

Or, if you have a camcorder, you can use its mic for voiceover and connect the audio to the audio card line input.

I've just been down this path, tried a whole range of electret junk with cheap pre-amp - no good. Have just purchaced a Yamaha MXL 'Desktop Recording Kit' - high quality Condenser Mic, self powered (battery), with connection lead to a mini-jack. Works exceedingly well !!

Some very good suggestions. Had read some very positive things about the Shure SM58 & SM57 regarding their musical usage but wasn't sure they were good for voice over work. Good to see that is correct. Question on the DRK: given the fact that the power source is a 9V battery, will this unit go through batteries quickly?
