Do the remote controls for DVD recorders use the same codes as a DVD player of the same brand?
I have a Panasonic RV32 DVD player, and am wondering if I bought a DMR-ES10 DVD recorder if the remote for the recorder would turn on/off the RV32 as well (I do not want this to happen).
Similarly, I have a new JVC VHS VCR, and if I get the DR-M100, would it's remote activate the VCR?
The only reason I ask this last question is due to something I saw at a friends place last week. The remote control for his JVC DVD/VCR combo also turns on his JVC S-VHS VCR. I am assuming that this happened because the DVD/VCR combo is using "VCR" remote codes and not because both units are from JVC.
Thanks.

The manufacturers try and use different codes for different devices. They should never be the same but sometimes they are.
If you're really concerned, take the remote from your RV32 down to the showroom and see if it will adversly control the recorder you're thinking of buying.
There are programmable remotes where you can program them from a PC. But the time it would take to research and become familiar with the codes and how to look up the device codes could take a long time. And some of the codes for the newest devices may not be published yet.
If you're interested, you can find out all about it here:

I've read many of the ES10/M100 threads here and on AVS forum, to the point that I am more confused than when I started.
I like the JVCs image quality, but the unit only has coaxial digital output, and my remaining available digital input is optical. The JVC unit also has fewer line inputs than the ES10 (2 vs 3). My camcorder uses VHS-C, so the DV jack isn't really a selling point.
I'm going to take the various VOB files that have been posted and burn them to DVD so I can see them on my TV to get a better idea.
