  1. i've asked in many different forums, including this one, but i don't recall ever getting an answer. perhaps it's because ULead products are substandard? i'm not suggesting they are, but i am surprised that not many people seem to know about the issue.

i've used Ulead DVD Movie Factory to encode and burn some TV captured media, and it came out really nice for a VCD... best i think i've ever seen next to TMPGEnc 2.5 plus w/ just the right mix of filters, etc.

i also burned a DVD, which was high-quality video aside from the fact that the apparent aspect ratio of the original media, when played on VLC Media Player for example, was not maintained-- such that the resulting DVD when played on a set-top player appeared too tall from top to bottom, or too skinny from side to side, however you'd like to call the image which seems to have been "squashed" to fit all pixels into a 4:3 area. i'm guessing you know what i'm talking about.

i got a copy of both DVD Workshop 2 and VideoStudio 8 from a friend who told me that one of the two in fact has a customizable setting for the video proportions / aspect ratio, but i couldn't find it in either of those software progs. should i give up?

all i'm trying to do is test the quality of the Ulead encoder for DVD's-- to see if it does as well proportionally. hope someone has input. not a huge deal, of course as i have other means. i'm just curious. i'd like to use Movie Factory again for VCD's, but i don't know what, if anything, i could do to make it maintain any "original" media aspect ratio other than 4:3.

    thanks for reading.
