My home DVD player seems to have problems when it comes to reading home-made DVDs. Is this my DVD player or is it the equipment and or discs used to make the home-made DVDs? My home DVD player is a Panasonic DVD-RV31.
Thanks for any feedback. Also, if you can give me some models for home DVD-players that work well with burned DVDs, I'd be grateful.
Thanks,
MOE

I use Sony DVD-Rs and Verbatim DVD-Rs. My friend made me a few using Maxell or Memorex DVD+Rs in addition to some generic Office Depot DVD+Rs.

download DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFIER to find out the MEDIA ID on those discs that you're using. brand names don't mean much unless you know the exact media codes and who the manufacturer is. SONY, MEMOREX & MAXELL use different manufacturers for their dvd media. the media that is MADE IN JAPAN is the best to use if you can find them. if it says MADE IN JAPAN on the spindle then you're in good shape. the MADE IN TAIWAN is good if it's VERBATIM with MCC media code. take a look in the MEDIA SECTION for all the different media codes/ manufacturers.Originally Posted by moe_b_disc

It could still be the player itself. Funny thing is that it seems to be the top end models that give the most trouble, for instance I've come across 3 Sony players that either won't play them at all or give intermittent operation with burn't DVD's.
The cheaper players seldom seem to have any problems which seems to go against the normal situation where you get what you pay for.
Have you tried your DVD's on someone elses players to see if they run OK. If they do or don't it would give you an indication of where the fault lies.Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.
