ok I think I've read most articles and guides that has MP4 in it.

I want an mp4 small enough in size to use for web.

So far I was succesful to do the following:

    DVD --> VOB--> AVI-->Edit with Premiere PRO1.5.1-->Export in MPEG1, MPEG2, RM, WMV, QT.

Ok, now what about MP4? Mainconcept doesn't export to MP4?
What do I need ( softwares, codecs..etc) to get a MP4 of the file for use on web.

    Any suggestions please

dvd to mp4 (with h264,x264,nero digital and aac audio)
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=112#112

or just convert to divx,xvid,h264 with mp3,aac audio etc and then remultiplex to a mp4 with YAMB. mp4 can contain most video formats.

    Hi again Baldrick,

ok: regarding yamb. it doesnt seem to support divx?
So I inserted an .avi with an mp3 in audio. Then (demux)...nothing happens in progress, yet it says (demuxing complete).

    am I doing anything wrong?

as for Nero Recode 2, well it was quite a good experience. I got my mp4 right away, although MP4 file size was a bit bigger than what i would expect web can handle. plus, its not a freeware.

so if u know how to do it using freeware, please give me more details...

    thanx

You could check out doom9's MeGUI.
mp4box should support DivX fine and even handles avi's with packed bitstream. If you are after small filesizes though I would suggest he-aac audio rather than mp3, also AVC video or DivX/ASP.

actually I'd like to look into the yamb issue. why isnt it really giving me my Mp4?

input: trying to join an avi uncompressed and .wav to mp4.

i hit join, then it says starting, then complete instantly.. but nothing is done. progress line doesnt move, no file is created at the output destination.

please can u tell me what I'm doing wrong.

PS: I tried both mux feature and joining. even tried to "extract" an avi file just to see if yamb will do ANYTHING...and as I expected, I get the same "complete" whith no output file.

    thanx

VirtualDubMod Should work. You might get a "Couldn't find VFW Decompressor" message, but direct stream copy will work. Just tested it. Add the WAV in the "Streams"--->Stream List Section, and save the file with an .MP4 extension.

You can save it with whatever extension you want, but that doesn't change the fact that VDubMod can't output mp4.

You can't mux raw avi and wav to mp4.

  11. VERVE, i''m getting the same problems with yamb. I even tried muxxing with meGUI to mp4, but it won't let you input an avi file. The input file has to be mp4 to output an mp4. any suggestions?

I don't see how it would matter what is contained in the avi file. If u mean copyright issue...its not.

anyway, like I already said, recode 2 worked very well in doing the job. but I still want yamb on my side.

come on guys, nobody knows why it's not completing the job for real?

Use AutoGK - that will reduce 4.2Gb DVD files to reasonable quality 700Mb files to fit on a CD - or you can tailor-make a filesize using the ADVANCED controls. You might need to get ffdshow or Koepi's XviD codec beforehand, to work alongside AutoGK (Auto Gordian Knot). The type of MP4-file you will eventually end up with is XviD.

I meant what streams. mp4box doesn't encode, it just muxes so as I said above you can't send it raw video and pcm audio.

FourCC I think also matters. I believe
DIVX, DX50, XVID, 3iv2, fvfw, NDIG, MP4V, M4CC, PVMM, SEDG, RMP4 are supported.

Yeah, the OP said "uncompressed video". Won't work that way. Need to encode/compress the video 1st. Use DivX/Xvid/etc. Then you could mux. May want to encode/compress your WAV as well (High qual AAC).

  17. i finally got it to work. i didn't have the up to date verisons. once i found those and realized how to unpack them it worked like a charm. however it seems that my standalone isn't compatible unless there's a trick i am not aware of to make .mp4 file play on my JVC XV-NP10S

Thanks to all who put effort to help. I didnt solve my issue, but I'll try different compressed formats to see if thats the issue.

In any case, I always got nero.

    Thanx again

Well if you have ASP/SP MPEG-4 in an avi, just make sure it uses one of the above fourCC's. If you want AVC then use x264 or Nero and encode directly to mp4.

Most standalones don't support mp4, only avi. Is it Nero Digital Certified?

Oh yeah, you can find my most revent cvs mp4box compiles here: http://www.aziendeassociate.it/cd//gpac/dev/MP4Box.7z
