  1. Hello, I am making a video for my friends band. I downloaded dvd author and Gui For DVD Author because I wanted to make my own menus from scratch and not the lame generic menus that Ulead DVD Factory forces you to use. Anyways I have spent hours laying out everything the way I want it to be then when I go to create my DVD I get these errors:

I dont understand why the program does not recognise my .m2v and .ac3 files. Ifo Edit has no problems putting these files together to make a DVD. But then I do not have my menu which I have spent a few hours to make. Is there some setting that I am overlooking here? If you have some possible answers I would be more than happy to hear your input.

    Thanks, Scotto

  2. I don't understand the problem either. It seems that mplex cannot multiplex your files for any reason. But there is a 'workaround' if ifoedit has no problems.

    1. Try another muxer:
Imago or bbmpeg (with DVD settings)
and use the multiplexed mpg stream in GfD.

If this should fail too, you can use ifoedit to 'preauthor' and use the resulting vob files as input for GfD. To do this, run all your movies seperately through ifoedit. If your movies are smaller than 1 GB you can just rename the resulting vob file (there will be just one) VTS_01_1.VOB to movie1.mpg (or 'Aint Talking About Love.mpg' for example). If the movies have more than 1 GB, you have to join the vob files. This can be done on the command line with the copy /b command.
For two vob files enter this line:
    copy /b VTS_01_1.VOB + VTS_01_2.VOB movie1.mpg
For three vob files enter this line:
    copy /b VTS_01_1.VOB + VTS_01_2.VOB + VTS_01_3.VOB movie1.mpg

Then use the movie1.mpg in GfD.

P.S. If you want to keep the menus, move the prepared mpg files to the same directory as your source files; in GfD open the Video+Audio files dialog; copy the chapter list (open the chapter list with the edit command and use copy + paste to save it in a temp. text file); replace the video file with the prepared mpg file; paste the saved chapter list.

  3. Ok, I got it to author my video but now I have a few new problems. First when I play the DVD source files on my computer, you can not see the background image of the main menu, but you do hear the music. I use the player on my computer to jump to the chapter menu, everything looks alright, but the buttons do not do anything. Then when I get the DVD files to play, it displays my 16:9 video as 4:3, so the video is all streatched. I checked in GUI For DVD Author and it shows my video as a 16:9 aspect. I want the menu to be in 4:3 aspect. Can You Give Me Any ideas to what I am doing wrong? Do you think the aspect ratio got messedup when multiplexed with Imago?

  4. 1. What soft player did you use?
you can not see the background image of the main menu
That sound's like PowerDVD. There is a known problem:

    2. I don't think that the aspect ratio got messed up when multiplexed with Imago, as GfD still reports it to be 16:9. Have you used titlesets for your project?

This problem is 'new'. In order to help you, I need some more info. Can you send me the author.xml, guiauthor.log, and the saved .gfd file by email? My email can be found in the guiauthor.log file.

P.S. Maybe you can also send me a very short clip (~ 1MB) from the beginning of your stream. You can create such a clip with ChapEditGFD. Then I can also have a look if the aspect ratio is changed somewhere in the stream.
