I've created a file that I wish to burn to a DVD. The file size is 6.99 GB, well over my DVD+R 4.7 GB.
I checked my DVD Burner and came up with the following data:
DVD+R/RW DL RECORDER. I checked the Write Features to make sure and sure enough it does support DVD+R DL's.
So I went to the store and bought a 3 pack of Memorex DVD+R DL's 8.5 GB. However, when I attempt to build the DVD CD in Adobe Encore DVD, it gives me the error, "Incompatible Media, please insert another disk and hit OK."
It doesn't accept the DVD+R DL's but it works perfectly for my 4.7 GB DVD+R's.
Occording to my burner data, it writes DVD+R DL's but Encore doesn't see it as acceptable media, anyone know the problem thats going on and if its a possible fix?
Its already past crunch time so I'm hoping there is a fix and I can be on my way.

You could try to get a patch for adobe. I would imagine you could update it to read dual layer discs.
Also you could try tmpgenc dvd author with a free trial and burn it that way.
OR author it in a program that will accept dual layer then output as an iso. You can use dvddecrypter to burn the iso to a dual layer disc.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I have a bunch of files I've converted to .vob, DVD Decrypter doesn't allow me to put all of them together and burn them as one.
I've used TMPGenc's TsunamiMPEGDVDAuthor but some of my files differ and it will not allow me to add all of them.
I had designed a nice layout and everything. I'm using the Encore DVD trial version, would the put out a patch that would allow it to write to dual layer disc on a trial version? -
So the problem would be with Encore and not with the DVD+R DL's CD's or the burner itself?

The only version of Encore that will work with DL burners is 1.5 patched to 1.5.1. Othwewise you'll get errors and make coasters - which is what happened to me while I was using Encore 1.0. I'd guess the trial version is not patchable.
Before I upgraded to 1.5 I just burned to an image and used DVD Decrypter to burn the image. That worked fine. -
For what it's worth here is the link to the 1.5.1 patch. Give it a try...it might work:

I appreciate the help guys, I really do.
If I burn to an image and then use DVD Decrypter, wouldn't it make the menus obsolete and instead just play the videos?
I'm off to try the patch. -
I get the error, "Cannot locate Encore 1.5 in Encore 1.5 Tryout."
Even though when I had Encore 1.0 and attempted an update it was unable to find Encore 1.0 in it's folder, so I don't know... -

For awhile that seemed to work rather well. Then I got an unknown error about half way threw, "DVD Error 1."
It's always something ;] -
I just took out all the fancy stuff and burned it onto a regular 4.7 GB DVD+R. Looks great on the TV, so I'll fiddle with Encore later.
It's good to know however that it was Encore and not my DVD Burner.
Thanks for the help guys. -
Because it took me a couple of hours to make the layouts and it really looked good. So I was seeing if there was a way to salvage the project.

Time out here......
I don't get what your problem is. How are you creating your "file"?
You tell Encore what size you want and it'll transcode it to that size...music, menus and all. When you go to the "Disc" tab you can select what size output you need....4.7GB will ensure that the entire project will be created to fit on a standard DVDR disk.
I prefer to create a DVD Folder. This allows me to use Nero or RecordNow to burn with. Encore won't give you an AUDIO_TS folder (burn or Image), and some older DVD players require this proper playback. Since most of my custom dvd's end up somewhere else. I never use Encore to burn with.
