After editing MINI DV in Vegas I want to author in Architect. Does it matter which format I render in to keep best quality? I was rendering in .avi but wondered if I'm better rendering in .mpg and then authoring. Thanks.

Render? I think you mean "encode".
Anyway, DVD-Video requires MPEG video, and a certain spec of MPEG video.

Let's try this again...
- DVD must be MPEG. You have no choice.
- The word should also be "encode" (if Vegas says "render" then it's wrong).Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

that is because to get to mpeg2 , the project consisting of composition, effects, filters, edits , etc has to be rendered first frame by frame (or field by field) - then encoded mpeg2 ... it is just hat vegas can do both steps at the same time ...
it is the same for premiere , etc ......
so rendered term is correct - so is encoded (though it is rendered first)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
So we've sorted out the terminology. Can someone please tell me whether I should render/encode in .avi or .mpg or doesn't it really matter?
Thanks ! -

Since AC-3 encoding is applied later in DVD Architect, the file may be a bit oversized at this point if you are pushing the limits.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

AC3 is done in vegas actually , right from the time line
vegas even comes with a script to do both in basically the same operation ... there are 100's of good scripts available for free for vegas ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

Once installed, it will be active during Vegas "render as" operations.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
