When capturing TV or VHS with ATI MMC 7.1 Video In, after a few minutes the computer locks up, no mouse or keyboard. Hard disk light goes on permanently, but graphics card still keeps screaming the picture.

Spec’s
Hardware – Ati Rage Pro ViVo, Chaintech motherboard, Duron 800, 256Mb and 20Gb UDMA hard disk (With DMA enabled)
Software – W2k Pro, SP1, MMC 7.1 with older graphic driver (6.33 I think, on disk version 3 from ATI) so that I can disable the Macrovision. I’ve also put on a reg fix for 2k that ATI recommend, but this made no difference.

I’ve tried:
1) Changing the DMA to PIO – Doesn’t lockup during capture, only when you stop capturing. Plus the machine runs very slow when ripping DVD’s.
2) Different capture software, all lock up after a few minutes.
3) It works in ME, but I would like to get it working in W2k for other work I do (ripping etc).
4) Reducing the bit rate below 1500 bps seams to work, but the quality isn’t what I'm looking for (SVCD not VCD)

My assumption is that there is a fault between the ATI card and the way the motherboard is screaming the data to the hard disk, but I haven’t a fix other than using ME.

Thanks for any help
