  1. Alright so I have an avi that I converted to a DVD compliant MPG. What programs are out there that will let me re-sync out of sync audio... preferably with a preview like VirtualDub will let you do. I know there's VideoRedo, and Mpeg-VCR will do resyncing but with no preview so it's all or nothing. Any help would be appreciated... this is taking a hell of a lot longer than it ought to.

If I am not mistaken you can in fact watch the video and adjust the audio sync in Videoredo. Open the audio adjustment and then start the video. Move the audio slider to the desired position and hit reset.

For more detailed information go to the Videoredo forum and ask. You will get an answer in a very short period of time. Customer support is excellent!

That happens quite often with avi to mpg conversion. Most sync fixes assume the audio is out of sync x amount of time the entire duration of the clip. You can use an audio program such as Goldwave and add/subtract the amount of time the sync is off.

All of my sync issues so far, the audio gets further out of sync throughout the video. So it may be 1 second off at the beginning and 5 seconds off at the end. The fix listed above and most programs I've tried don't take this into account. I finally gave up and bought a DIVX DVD player. Now I just burn the files as data to a cd or dvd and play them straight from the drive. Saves a lot of time and headaches.

  4. I had an old version of VideoRedo that was giving me problems with .ac3 audio for whatever reason. I updated it and it worked like a charm.

Gradual out of sync is the worst. I've tried a demo of GoldWave and couldn't get it to work for some reason with some other movie I needed to convert...so usually what I'll do is just cut up the MPEG in MPEG-VCR and adjust the sync until it's way to far gone. *shrugs* takes a while but it gets it done .

    Thanks for the help guys.

is the AVI file "in sync" before you encode it?

What program are you using anyways? ... maybe i can help you with a avi>mpeg2 conversion...

plus you'll never sync a movie thats gradually gets worse, you'll need to split the movie up and sync those clips and then re-join them, well thats my way anyways

if you convert your avi to dvd with tmpgenc you could adjust the sync in the audio delay settings.i usually encode a few seconds towards the end of a movie to see if the talking is in sync then encode the whole movie...usually always works
