  1. I just bought Philips 642 divx player. I was wondering what kind of subtitle it plays.
    and where can I find smi to SRT or SSA converter?
    all subtitles i have is in smi format
    I read it plays srt subtitle in dvd hack section.

    srt files are the only files I've had any luck with the 642 playing...but I don't have very many subtitled movies. Also, the 642 does not automatically play subtitles (assuming your files are burned onto the disc as data). You have to choose the subtitle file from the disc menu, press the subtitle button, you should then get a message stating something like subtitles have been selected, then choose the video file and press play. Also, the video file and subtitle file have to have the EXACT same name (except extension of course).
