Hello. I'm kinda new to video editing. I was wondering if anyone knows a guide for capturing video from Virtual Dub v1.6.9. I've tried to figure out how to use it but it seems really complicated and I ended up not doing anything. Can anyone help me?

hi there! Thanks for the link. Do I need to have a capture card to use VirtualDub? I was trying to set it to capture mode when several errors appeared. It says that “Error: 418 capture device was not detected,” “VirtualDub cannot connect to the desired capture driver. Trying all available drivers.” And “PANIC: VirtualDub cannot connect to any capture drivers!” I’m actually using pinnacle studio v9 to capture and edit my videos. But since the audio and video went out of sync, I am now trying to use virtualdub. Would virtualdub really solve my out of sync problems?

Yes, you need a capture card. I'd recommend either a Radeon All In Wonder which captures AVI or MPEG (it's a combined graphics and capture card) or the Hauppauge 250 or 350 (MPEG only)

I'm not sure about VirtualDub, but you could always try Windows MovieMaker if you are transfering video from a camcorder.

You can not use a firewire card with virtualdub. And you don't capture with a firewire, you copy the data to the hd. Read https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=267926

I downloaded winDv to try and capture from there but the same thing happened. My handycam was not detected. I also tried ulapines' advice to use windows movie maker, again, the same thing happened. <sigh> There's a weird thing though, i can capture videos with pinnacle but not with above mentioned software.
