For DV to DVD, I use WinDV for transferring, then VirtualDub for editing and color correction if needed, then TMPGEnc Plus encoder, and TMPGEnc DVD Author for authoring and burning and sometimes Nero to burn.

The first two are free, the last three pay. For just a quick conversion I use VSO DivxToDVD, which is now pay, but has a trial version.

Free encoders, such a Quenc can be found in 'Tools' to the left, along with free authoring tools such as dvdauthor and a GUI for it.

Most of these apps are probably in the toolboxes of anyone seriously in the video editing, processing, production game here.

  5. The above answers are good but the lists are probably too long to be useful at this stage for you. You need to narrow down how you want to do this. For example, I use a canopus box to transfer tv output to my computer as dv in avi format. it looks like that is what Redwudz is doing. Then you can use the programs he mentioned to end up with dvd compliant files to burn. You can capture with various cards and/or usb devices using various programs for capture. Your results can be anywhere from terrible to great depending on the quality of the hardware/software and your abilities and learning. The closer you get to the one button solution, the less likely you are to get good product. You'll actually have to put effort into this, starting with various guides here and at Doom9, and get enough understanding to ask relevant questions that we can give useful answers to. Nyah Levi
