How to add subtitles to an MPEG2 file??

I've an MPEG2 file having 720 X 480 resolution video and 192Kbps MP3 audio multiplexed within it. Now, I want to add subtitles to this MPEG2 file. The subs are in .srt format...Pls tell me which software I've to use to add subs to an MPEG2 file to again get MPEG2 file with subtitles displayed.

Sorry to say, but you gave an irrelevant answer. I told that I've an MPEG2 movie file, not a DVD with seperate audio and video tracks. The guide describes about recreating VOBs from an original DVD. It involves usage of IFO files etc, which are in no way related to my problem.

Let me tell you want I want once again (more clearly):

I've an MPEG2 file. It's resolution is 720 X 480, bitrate is 4000bits/sec and frame rate is 23.97fps, and it contains 192Kbps MP3 audio. These are the specifications of the movie file. That's it. The comparision with a DVD ends there. Now, I want to add subtitles to this movie file. The subtitles I have are in .srt format. All I want is a suitable software which can add subtitles to my MPEG2 movie file. That's it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't DVD-lab prompt you to demux your source file(s) when you add them ?


Of course my point is this:

Why not just disregard step 1 of that guide (since it does not apply to your situation), go straight to step 2, import your MPEG file (demuxing it when you add it), and add your subtitle file, and follow the rest of step 2 of the guide from there ? Of course you need to ignore step 3 as well because it does not apply to your situation, but from my limited understanding of dvd-lab, step 2 is exactly what you want/need, is it not ?
