  1. I've been messing with After Effects for a couple days and can't seem to get a clip to export to anything that doesn't look crappy. I'm used to Vegas, where I can export to any number of formats, including uncompressed. I'm working on a chromakey project and would like to export it out as uncompressed with an alpha channel that I can use in Vegas since the Vegas chromakeyer stinks.

    TIA

What formats have you tried ?

Generally, unless the clip is too big, I will uput to uncompressed avi if I need to use it somewhere else. If it is too big for that then DV-avi is the next option. I haven't had a great deal of success using the lossless compression codec as they just seem to be too slow on my machine.

  3. I tried outputting to video for windows .avi at their highest setting, but it still looked terrible.

After Effects doesn't give me many output settings, is there a lossless plug that I need too?

export to frames -- like targas or tiff is most common ..

    not to avi ..

also -- vegas has a very good keyer , about the same as stock AE , thats why people buy plugins for AE though

s'funny - when I render from my 3d proggie I always render to a sequence of stills, but from AE I rarely do. Probably because from AE I am usually exporting finished work ( and usually pretty quickly), whereas my 3D work is usually just bits and pieces for compositing elsewhere, and takes a lot longer.

  6. I got it to go uncompressed.

As for Vegas looking like AE in chromakeying, I would have to say that there's just no way to compare the two. I can't get a good key out of Vegas...to much blocking around the edges. Even with the edge blur bumped up, I still get it.

AE has included keylight since version 6 and with some tinkering, I can get a key that would compete with Ultra.

What? AE has a wide variety of output options. Are you looking in the right place?

  10. I found out how to do an uncompressed avi. The setting defaults to the carpy cinepack avi codec. I just set it to 'none' and it worked.
