You ask this question in the dvd to svcd or avi conversion forum so would it be right in thinking that your 4 gig file is already in dvd format?

In that case it would seem to be a strange question.

Just a few other questions for starters:
If not as stated above, then is the input in DV format. What are you trying to achieve? Only storage or do you want to view it on computer only or maybe a standalone dvd player. What is the length in minutes of the video? Any other info you can give will help. Input file size is the least of the needed information.

  3. thanks for trying to help me.

yes, the video is in dvd format. 1:47:09 length.

and I would like to view it on my standalone dvd player.

I have seen a full dvd movie in a single cd, but I just don't know how to do it.

as you have not filled your computer details in, i am assuming you dont have a DVD burner?
do you really want to get your 4gb of file on one CD? why not put it on one DVD.
If you reallyare aiming for one CD then ohhh man the quality is gonna be cack....
The cost of an even reasonable burner, may well be worth it for the far superior quality you will be able to achieve by squeezing it onto a DVD, rather REALLY squeezing and disfiguring it to fit on a CD.

You say it is already in DVD format
Do you mean m2v+mp2 (or any other audio) files, or do you mena VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders?

If you really care about preserving the memories of your son, buy a DVD burner. Don't butcher the video for a 15-year-old VCD format. We're only talking about a $50 investment (newegg.com, get the Pioneer 109 drive).

  6. I'll just add another vote for getting the DVD burner. You really will kick yourself later if you don't.

  7. If the video is in DVD format now, how did it become this way?

This would seem to indicate you are using a DVD-disk camera?

If so, finalize the disk in the camera, and insert it in your DVD player.

    Good decision!

The cost per unit of DVD over cd is about the same. I pay .40 cents for cd in 50 pack ($19.99 can.) and .40 to .50 cents per dvd in 50 pack ($19.99 or $24.99 can.). I bought a generic 8x 50 pack of dvd for $15.99 canadian from a small reseller just to try and they work fine. So $ for $, DVD is a better investment. I only burn cd for my car cd player.
