I just bought a pleextor px-716a recently and have been reading lately about how you have to set certin aspects to get the fastest speeds for it. Something to do with your bios (UDMA,DMA...ETC). I have a compaq computer so my bios is limited to what i can do, and it seems thatyou have to make some changes in plextools as well. At this time my burn speed is only getting to about 7 to 8x and my ripping speed is only about 2x for any disc. What i'm looking for is someone who etiher has this and has it set up or knows how to set it up to burn as fast as it advertises. I have searched the forum but either i missed the topic or just don't understand what i'm reading
I also have the latest firmware installed aldeady
Thanks,
David

Make sure you are using an 80 wire EIDE cable for both your hard drive(s) and the DVD writer.
Then make sure you are running your hard drive(s) and the DVD writer in DMA mode: Right click on My Computer, select Manage -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, double click on Primary (and/or Secondary) IDE Channel -> Advanced Settings. Make sure Transfer Mode is set to DMA If Available then that the current transfer mode is a DMA mode. Hard Drives are usually Ultra DMA mode 5, DVD writers Ultra DMA Mode 2. Or something close to that. If should not see a PIO mode.
If you find that the drives are set to DMA if Available but the drives won't go into DMA mode. Uninstall the driver(s). When you reboot Windows will reinstall the drivers and fix the non-DMA issue. -
Thanks,
I will look into it and try that . I'll let you knoe how it goes
