Why aren't I able to play a reauthored DVD faster than 1x??

I've ripped and reauthored a few movies using DVD Decrypter, DVD2AVI, TMPGEnc encoder/DVD Author, and Nero. I've noticed that when playing back my burned discs on my standalone player, the fast forward button does absolutely nothing. Why is this? Is it because I didn't go through setting up chapters or some shit? I don't care about chapters, all I wanna do is fast forward for christ sakes.

Are you sure you are hitting the fast forward button and not the skip forward button?

Chapter points allow the skip buttons to work, but fast forward/rewind should work all the time.

Gah. So I tried with the remote and it worked. The Left/Right arrows on the damn player itself must only be chapter shit. That's annoying. I was just trying to get into th emovie a little to see if everything looked right after some editing.
