  2. Why do you crave for speed, speed does not always give the best results ??

For single layer discs, you can try DVDdecrypter in it's ISO mode, just insert the disc you want to copy into your DVD-rom drive then insert a blank DVD into your writer. Then select ISO read in DVDdecrypter, this will rip the disc to your hard drive creating an ISO image.
Then once you have your image select ISO write in DVDdecrypter and write the image to your blank DVD,

You can use the same method when copying Dual Layer movies to Dual Layer blank discs.

If however you want to copy Dual Layer movies to single layer discs you will need to use ReEncoding software such as DVDRebuilder or Transcoding software such as DVDshrink.
The faster method here is to use DVDshrink but people will tell you that DVDRebuilder will give better quality but will take much longer.

Expect to get several different answers to this question of yours because there are many factors to take into account when copying DVD's such as your processor speed, available memory, hard drive speed etc, etc.

To find the fastest way for you will probably inevitably mean doing some testing of your own with different programs as recommended by the peolpe on this forum !!

For speed, I would suggest AnyDVD. For single layer dvds, use your burning software to do a direct disc to disc copy, and same for dual layer if your burning to dual layer discs.

If discs needs compressing, then I would suggest the same as Harryspadge suggests, use dvd shrink, all all enhancements turned off and analysis turned off. This is at the expense of quality. Some people have found (including myself) dvd2one to be faster than dvd shrink.

But you cant have it both ways, its either faster speed at the expensive of quality, or quality at the expense of speed.

As both replies above suggest, you can increase speed, but you will always lose quality. In most cases, the loss in quality will be noticable. In some cases, it may mean that your DVDs also begin to lock up and freeze, or stutter, perhaps even down the road. I own a 16X burner, and most of the discs I buy are 8X, right now, due to availability. However, I have all of my software set to maximize the quality, and I never burn faster than 4X.

Still, I know this is not the answer you were looking for, and I hate it when people pop in with "off topic advice," and ignore the question I had asked. if quality is not at all important to you, then I would suggest that you check out the many VHS tapes which are now being unloaded virtually free, or for free. This can be the fastest solution of all.

I am about to give away my ancient set of VHS tapes, which numbers 556 in all. Interested? If you can pick them up, you are welcome to them, at no cost.

    /slightly off topic

It should also be pointed out that (when it comes to burn speeds) slower is not necessarily better. I have some 4x media that burns better at 6x than at 4x, while I have used 8x media that burns better at 4x, and still other 8x media that works best at 8x.

In short, for quality, you need to test and see what works for you.

    /slightly more on topic
I think the poster was refering to the software, not the actual burning process.

Fastest is not always the bestest.Clonedvd,dvd2one,iclick dvd copy, pinnacle instant copydvd shrink are all pretty fast.you're talking a few minutes differenc. Dvd rebuilder is the bestest, but is the slowest. It all depends on what your after. Most of the programs except rebuilder are relativley fast, but if you have to crunch too much dvd rebuilder is the way to go.
New burners with modified firmware are fast at burning and more compatable with media compared to the first year models.
Therefore new dual layer burner, the right firmware, one of the above or other programs,45 minutes at the most to make a copy.Dual layer copy, about the same.

With such a wonderful lack of infomation.
And such succinct and thorough replies I can only add one thing.

The quickest way to get a second copy of a movie is to BUY it! :P

But seriously, you have to try stuff. If you really dont care about quality then you are an infidel! but will probably still have to try stuff, as it may depend on your PC setup.

If you have two drives you can copy on the fly.......tho not recommended.

you have SOO many options to choose from, you either need to give us more infomation to work on or do some trial and error yourself.
