Error Code 11 - Compressing audio (and video) in virtual dub

I've been trying to convert a video file in Virtualdub. I set the video compression to xvid and the audio compression to LameMP3 128kb - however, i keep getting this error when i try to convert it:



I tried the other MP3 compression that is available and i still get the error. I also tried different kbs.
If i select "no compression" i get no error.

Does anyone know why i am getting this error and how i can fix it?

I searched for "error code 11", "mmsyserr" and "audio codec reported an error" before i posted and nothing came up

Scan for bad frames, and save the audio out to a wav file. load fixed avi with wav, encode. Voila!

Your searches were too specific, "vdub audio" would probably find these answers, they are generec fixes for many causes of problem.

Would i be right in saying scanning for bad frames is done by selecting Video-->"Scan video stream for errors"? If so, i did that and i received no errors, as at the bottom vdub it says:
"0 frames masked (0 frames bad, 0 frames good but undecodable)"
that means theres no errors right?

I extracted the wav anyway and tried to use the extracted source with the avi and convert it, but i still get the error. If it makes any difference the video file is a MiniDV avi file.

Correct procedure on the frame scan, but incorrect conclusion. This means there are no errors, detectable to Vdub, IN THE VIDEO. Audio still could have issues. Video could still have issues that Vdub cannot detect, but unlikely for actual errors.

After saving the WAV, then reload the AVI and select the WAV file as audio source. OR, try encoding the WAV file seperately in any encoder. This file should be OK. Note that just saving the WAV does not fix the audio in the AVI, it gives you an alternate, hopefully fixed seperate audio source which you must then specify in Vdub or encode seperately.

Encoding seperately has the advantage of completely divorcing the audio from the video, which allows you to debug any issues seperately.

I have on occassions had to save audio as WAV, specify NO AUDIO and resave the original AVI, reload no audio AVI and seperate WAV, and then encode. Complete seperation of streams.
