  1. Been reading on all the capture, convert, encode and burn processes. I have also looked through all the dvd players on the list. To give you an idea what i am trying to accomplish I just got a new DV camcorder (310 after rebate from amazon) want to burn the video on cd and ply in the dvdp (I know this is not a big deal most standalones will do vcd no problem). Also, the kids have about a 100 vcr tapes that somehow end up all over the living room floor (i fixed this problem by only having 10 down at a time). I am wanting to convert all of them to 1 80min cd each inorder to put them in a cd binder so i dont have to dig through 90 vcr tapes to fine the one i am looking for(you know it is always on the bottom in the back unless i start there then it is on top in the front...haha)

So, the questions i have is what is the best format for each (dv and vcr tapes) and if you were going to buy a dvd for this which one would you get.

I was looking at the pioneer dv-343 but no one in town has it in stock and say it is an old model and will not be getting anymore. Also noticed the RCA5240P but for some reason to me RCA=CRAP. Actualy bought the JVC XV-S65GD but took it back... made several svcd the movie would start and after about 5 sec. the pic woud freeze but the audio would keep playing.

Price range... well, i would like to stay under 200 but would consider going a bit higher if necessary.

  2. Similar problems in my house too. Eventually I will set some time aside to convert some of the kids vhs tapes to disk. I also have a DV camera (cannon optura). My advice is to convert to SVCD, especially from the DV, to preserve as much quality as you can. As far as DVD players go, I have a Pioneer 333 model an it is awesome quality for the price. I have never had a problem playing and correctly authored DVD, VCD, or SVCD in it.
