  1. When burning a VCD with Nero, does the length of the VCD matter or does the size of the VCD?

  2. Length as in time.

  3. Both length and size matter. However, as the size of an MPEG is directly proportional to its length (if it is a CBR MPEG), you usually need only think of one.

For VCD compliant MPEG streams, you can fit 74 minutes onto a 74min/650MB CD-R and 80min on an 80min/700MB CD-R.

For SVCDs streams or any variant of XVCD, you can only go by the size of the MPEG. You can fit about 740MB of video on a 74min/650MB CD-R and 800MB of video on an 80min/700MB CD-R.

The apparent discrepancy in capacity is because the video data on a S/VCD is burnt in MODE2 Form2. This this method, additional error correction codes found in MODE1 discs or MODE2 Form1 discs are forgone for extra capacity.

The stated capacity of CD-R media (in MB) refer to the MODE1 capacity (i.e., ordinary CD-ROMs).

  4. But something strange happens to me: i've captured with Ulead Visual Studio5 45 minutes of movie in mpeg1 at 2000kbps CBR obtaining a 800MB files, then, dropping it in a NON STANDARD VCD layout in NERO 5.5.2.4 it says that the file lasts 90 min !!! the double of its real size ... and i cannot burn the vcd 'cause i put in a 80 min blank cdr.
So i cannot make a XVCD with nero ....
Has anyone had the same problem and found a solution ??
    Thanks from Italy.
