  1. Two questions.

    For example. Movie Hancock.

Via BDInfo I see two .mpls files (00002.mpls and 00004.mpls) both with identical length 01:42:14 and both with identical size 27.617.734.656 Bytes
The other two are less in length and size, I think the 2 files I first mentioned are a uncut version. Is this correct?

Why are there 2 of the same playlists with 2 different names on the same Blu-Ray Disc? Can anybody explain this?

  2. It's because the main movie clpi/m2ts is referenced more than once in the playlist. It may sometimes be that one is for partial playback, per jdobbs in the BDRB bug report thread. The particular bug that resulted in for BDRB was fixed, but the fact remains that you'll often see it when there's no possibility that one refers to partial playback.

Your question piqued my curiosity, so I analyzed a dozen discs, half of which I know have complex java menus. The simple discs had no duplicates. OTOH, discs with complex java menus did.

Band of Brothers disc one has multiple entries, not just two, and that disc has an interactive timeline feature, among other complications. Harry Potter 7 is a fiendishly complex disc, so much so that I had to run DVDFabPasskey and extract main movie with Clown_BD, otherwise it didn't get ripped properly. That one also has interactive features and duplicate mpls files.

Yeah, it's not uncommon and I confess I don't know for sure why that is. But I suspect it may be because of complex java structure. And, obviously, multiple references in the playlist.

If someone has a better explanation, I'd be delighted to learn what it is.

[EDIT] You might be interested to know that the movie "Hancock" is discussed a good bit in the BDRB bug report thread. Seems it was problematic for a while with earlier versions of BDRB. I'll just bet it has a java menu and complex structure. Does that disc have PiP (picture-in-picture) or any other interactive features?

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

  3. Thanks for your fast reaction and your welcome.

I have the movie on my HDD as a BDMV/CERTIFICATE folders. Where can I find the discussion you mention about Hancock?

And by the way, Hancock is not the only movie with identical playlists with other names.

If I found out WHY I will share

  4. Go to the BDRB bug report thread and do a search on Hancock:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143716

It's not really going to answer your question. There have been a good many problematic movies discussed there. Usually the difficulties come down to java menus and particularly PiP. And the author's interest is in eliminating BDRB bugs of course, not in explaining BD structure.

You can learn a bit more by reading the BDEdit thread at Doom9, but I warn you, it's highly technical. The participants are, so to speak, heavy-hitters who are interested in technical problems. You may be surprised to learn that access to BD specifications is very restricted. Much of the discussion is concerned with, I guess you could say, reverse-engineering the structure.

  5. I think it's too soon for me for such technical language at Doom9. I'm just person who watch movies on his HDX-1000

I have tried since tonight to muxe the files including the playslist of Hancock with tsMuxer, but I recieve "error code -2"/"Unexpected byte".
I didn't recieve such an error when muxing other movies....

    Anyway thanks...

  6. Your movie probably has multiple m2ts files for the main movie. That can sometimes cause problems with tsMuxer. Your error is likely to be a sync byte missing error.

Extract main movie with Clown_BD instead, and select Blu-Ray output. You can convert the audio at the same time if you want. Then do whatever you like with it.

    Good luck.
