  1. Ran DVDFab Decrypter to successfully pull some files off a DVD my daughter had scratched, and that I assume isn't much longer for this world. So I now have a directory of VOb and IFO files. However, I want to convert to MPEG-2 files to playback on the computer (since I'm trying to get away from physical media in the hands of children).

So, I use the Source Wizard in TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress and tell it DVD import, and it complains about the audio format used being incompatible. I try to play the scene in the edit screen, and sure enough, no sound.

I then try using VirtualDubMod, which imports, but again a quick playback in the tool has no sound. I then play using my software DVD player set to that directory, and it works fine.

I'm guessing there's an easy step here I'm missing, but would appreciate a pointer to the nose I can't seem to find on my face.

    TIA!

you dont need to convert to mpg2 to view it on PC

use powerdvd or windvd and point it to your VIDEO_TS folder to play the DVD you ripped

Sifaga is right. Use PowerDVD to play the dvd directly from your hard drive.

Converting is a time consuming and lenghty process, which will also result in quality loss.

  5. My bad for not being more informative. My Video Out from my computer is my Hauppauge PVR-350 card (on the connected TV), and the other way I serve video is through a MediaMVP in the other room. Both of those require MPEG-2 as input.

Yes, I can successfully playback the VOBs using a number of DVD programs (Intervideo came on the box, so that's what I usually use). Unfortunately, that doesn't work for the other places I'd like to be able to watch from. Hence the original question.

One thing I was able to get working (but hope it isn't the final answer) was to use VirtualDubMod to create a DiVX of the video, and then use TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress to convert that to an MPEG-2. But that adds an extra step that is more work, and I'm concerned a bit about what that might be doing to the image quality as well.

Any more direct way to get where I'm going?

    Thanks again,
    Ewan

That led to the thread I needed.

One related question, does the DVDFab Decrypter tool have a similar option, or only the older DVD Decrypter tool?

    Thanks again,
    Ewan
