When I convert an avi file (640/320) from my camara to dvd (720/576) I get a lot of silly looking dots and sparks all over the picture, allso know as dropping frames. How is it that I can get rid of these?
I use Ulead dvd workshop to convert...

Don't use a resolution higher than your source. If you want to use a higher resolution you have to capture at it.
BTW, that's not dropping frames, dropping frames is when your capturing a video and the disc can't write the data fast enough.... it has to drop the frames to keep up. -
oh my bad

But the thing is that I need to get resolution at 720/576
and I can only capture up to 640/480 -
and while I change the resolution these dots and sparks as mentioned appear...

Well I don't know what to suggest, someone else might know what to do using something other than DVDWS. Why 720/576? 352 x 288 is a PAL compliant resolution as well, try it with a bitrate of about 3000, you'll see that the results are not that bad especially if it's VHS your capturing from. Probably preferable to what your getting now.Originally Posted by malisamson

Well the problem is just that 322/240 is VCD in Ulead and I need to burn it on a dvd...is it going to be playable if I burn it as vcd?

Try capturing with another program than Ulead.
Try Virtualdub for example. Capture to AVI (huffyuv) then convert it to mpeg2 with a good encoder. -
Although associated with VCD it is a DVD resolution too. On top of that you can set the bitrate higher for better quality than VCD.Originally Posted by malisamson
You can import the AVI's you have now, Scaling down is not a problem. Some will even suggest it's preferable than capturing at the lower resolution. Anyhow test it out first. Put a clip on the first play thumbnail and go to the finish menu. Click create disc and select custom, set the resolution appropiately and use a bitrate of 2500-3000 w/AC3 audio
BTW I'm using 1.3 so if your using 2.0 those directions may vary slighly. -
It is better at higher resolutions but lower resolutions require less, at some point it becomse wasted. Get a card that suuports full frame capture.Originally Posted by malisamson
