    Here are my PC
    P4:2.8GHz
    512*2 DDR bus 400
    4 HDDs
I encode some Anime eps in Xvid to mpeg2 but when Tmpgenc Xpress are working ,it only used 60-70 % CPU usage so I think if I can get Tmpgenc Xpress use more CPU usage ,the encoding will be faster ?
Could somebody please give me advice ?
    Thanks in advance

I noticed the same thing with my P4 3.06GHz HT... The only thing that I could think is that the process was probably I/O constrained. At the time, both my input and output files were on the same harddrive. I have yet to actually try using input and output on two seperate IO channels, but I assume that it would probably make things work faster.

You could give that a try.

  3. Have you gone into the options tab / preferences? Under the CPU Tab check your settings.

    Good Luck

  4. Hyper threading.

You need to ensure the option to use multi-thread is set to 2 processors.

    thank you guys for replying
I checked all the option in Preference/CPU tab but nothing changed
This problem occured after I had reinstalled window Xp SP2
by the way please tell me if codecs can make Tmpgenc Xpress run slower ?I tried to uninstall Klite codecs and Tmpgenc Xpress run very fast but the output couldn't be viewed in WMP (only sound no video ) although I could see it in the preview
I need a codecs to run faster ,SPEED is more important for me than quality .Please tell me which codecs have Tmpgenc Xpress run faster ?
I encode from one drive to another drive

It ran very fast because it wasn't encoding the video.

If you are running a HT Pentium 4 bring up the task manager when Xpress is running and right click on it you will see options to set its priority and whether or not it uses 1 or 2 cpus (HT in P4s looks like two CPUs to WinXP.

Another setting if speed is more important is to chose speed over quality. As I remember it (I'm at work right now) it has settings to prioritize speed or quality. I seem to remember that setting showing up after I choose output format, In my case NTSC DVD. You'll have to read the screens carefully, however it will make a difference in speed at a small sacrifice in quality.

OTOH if you can afford it I belive Mainconcept will be faster it just makes it a pain if you want to input many files and output one big file which is why I use Xpress instead of TMPGEnc Plus which is easier to do for one file. And another choice for speed would be CCE Basic.

    Cheers

I can't find "speed over quality "anywhere
And about mainconcept and CCE ,I tried both of them but they couldn't resize resolution ,I wanted to add a black border to prevent the overscan problem and the only progam that let me do that is Tmpgenc
Now I'm looking at my PC encoding very slow
    Please help me !!!!!!

You need to look at the setting for 'motion search precision'.

As for other encoders, most are faster than tmpgenc. If they don't resize etc you can do this outside of the encoder with something like virtualdub or avisynth and then frameserve to your encoder. Look in the guides for info on frameserving. It might appear complex at firts but is realy quite easy to master and provides a very powerful tool in your aresenal.
