I have some DVD's with motion menus that do not seem to want to duplicate correctly. I've used Nero Express, creating an image with DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink to no avail. Any suggestions?
Interestingly enough, I also ripped the MPEG and used my own menu, and it still doesn't copy correctly.
Thanks for the help, guys!

Give CloneCD a try. It will create a 1:1 image of the entire disc, not just the VIDEO_TS folder.
In my experience, when I've used the built-in menu stuff in Pinnacle Studio, it creates some other folders that DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink do not recognize. -
What programs were used to create the original?
What sort of errors are you experiencing? -
Not sure what was used in the original since I got this in a trade.
Basically, the DVD copy loads up and displays the menu. Then, it will start to play. However, at some point (can range from 10-30 minutes into the DVD), it just locks up ands goes back to the menu. I've tried many ways to copy this thing, including removing the motion menu and placing my own there, but to no avail. -
I am assuming that the original plays? This has not been mentioned.
Also assume that the original burner is not available to you? And that you are using a different brand of burner and software? What brand and software used for the original?
What brand of media used for the original? Burnt at what speed? Has the original disk been checked for errors? use Kprobe or similar. Could have errors which are not evident on playback but which cause ripping errors.
Also am assuming that other burns you make, with a Similar Size File, do not show this kind of error? A burn of a much smaller file may not trigger the error condition.
Have you tried playback on the PC? -
Original DVD plays. Original burner not available to me. It is a different brand of burner and software. I believe Apple was the original.
Fuji is original, TDK is the duplicate. Haven't checked for errors yet. Other burn work just fine. Playback on PC gives same trouble as on DVD player.
However, I retried the burn at 2.4X instead of 4X, and it seems that the duplicate plays fine. I'm wondering if the TDK media is not good enough for some reason? I have made more than normal amounts of coasters lately with that brand.
Thanks for your continued help! -
Bingo!!!!
Burning speed issue. Or media not compatible at that speed.
In discussing blanks, it is simply not valid to say "TDK is this" or "Fuji is that". Almost all brand names use a variety of manufacturers, so that the crap brand you buy today could be good as gold tomorrow. The only apparently reliable indicator is "made in Japan".
Also, I wish to thank you for reporting back on success (or failure) on problem resolution. Note that the solution was not indicated until further information was given on the nature of the problem. "Failure" is far different than "locks up on FF". One points at a specific solution, the other does not point at all. Not meaning to beat you over the head, this is a common problem.
