I downloaded a HDTV shuttle launch video bittorent file comprising a few space shuttle launches, the files are .mpg's and fail to play. They wont load into VirtualDubMod or my other video editing progs either. I dont seem to be able to do anything with these vids (4 GB worth).

Any suggestions on a course of action?

    Thanks

I have discovered that I can load them into mpeg-vcr. It says the files are MPEG-2 (vbr), resolution: 1280x720, frame rate: 59.94, bit rate: 45.000000 mbs.

Does this mean anything to anyone?

  4. I'm not sure if this will help, but try HDTVtoMPEG2. Let us know if it works.

HDTVtoMPEG2 seems to be for transport streams (.TS). It wont open my .mpg's.

At the end of each of the video filenames is 720p. They seem to be high res/high framerate .mpgs that arent compatible with much..

I am out of my depth..

try install hdtvpump. and play with media player classic.

and you can use dgindex to convert to avi or other formats if you like.

I think it has to do with your MPEG2 codec installed on your PC. What app are you using to play the file ? I know the built in Mpeg2 decoder in MediaPlayer Classic will play 720p and 1080i files.

Try loading the file in DGindex - it is possible the files have .mpg extensions, but are in fact .TS or .TP mpeg transport stream files.

    Thanks for the assist guys.

I managed to use mpeg-vcr to convert one of these vids to an acceptable DVD format mpg file. This high quality footage after having been converted has very faint vertical lines through the frame, is this an interlacing thing? Maybe I should be deinterlacing?

    Once again thanks muchly.
