    how can i keep the same quality of the movie but alos have the .srt file in the .avi file? thnx

    If you keep the subtitles external, then there's no effect on the video. I assume you want to "burn" the subs into the video, in which case you'll definitely have lowered quality. You'll have to reencode the AVI to get the subs into the video, and the quality degradation may or may not be noticeable just from the reencoding. Burning subs into the video while reencoding will make the degradation obvious, as you'll get all this noise around the subs. The results may still be acceptable to you

    How can you do it? It could be as simple as just opening the AVI in VDubMod, adding the SRT subs via VDub's TextSub Filter, choosing a codec and a bitrate and running a couple of passes. Of course, if you've never done it before, it may not seem all that simple. I might suggest AutoGK for the job, or one of the guides on this site to show you other ways to do it.
