  1. Long time ago, my friend in Canada used an app to get onto my PC so he could fix some stuff up I knew nothing about. I forgot the app, and forgot how to use it. Anyway, now I have a friend who lives near by that can't setup messenger (He's a tard) Anyway, I'm not gonna go to his place just to set it up, so can someone let me know of a good remote assistance app.

    Thanks

Oh...something free and easy to use...if possible.

  2. If I am not mistaken, there is one in windows (assuming your using XP) called remote desktop or something like that.

Failing that, there are quite a few programs out there. PC Anywhere and Laplink are ones, but may be a bit old. VNC I believe has a pretty good one as well.

There are tons of lesser known ones with names like FindMyPC and stuff like that, but I dont know how good they are.

That is different to remote assistance and only available on Win XP PRO versions, not the Home Edition.

The simplest way to set up remote assistance is through Start and then Help and Support in the Taskbar. Type in remote assistance in the search which will provide a step by step way of setting up remote assistance.

VNC is very good, but you need to have it installed at both ends

  7. RDP, you can download it from microsoft. It's much faster than anything else. I used to love pcAnywhere, but it was dog slow.

Is it easy to use? Do I have to get my friend to dl it too. He's a tard so he's gonna need me to give him instructions via telephone on how to do things at his end until I can get on his PC

It's built-in on XP, but you'll need to download it for other OSs

Just inter in the IP and the username and password and hit enter

Your're now looking at their desktop. It doesn't do file transfers natively though. I did here there was a plugin for it, but I haven't tried it
