    I posted earlier -

I have an ATI AIW 9600XT and lately I have been getting some clicking sounds in my audio and I'm not sure why?

I've made several captures with no problems.

The only thing I can think I changed is the specs for the codec Im using which is WMV.

I think I try a capture with a different setting or even codec but so you think there's a problem with my Sound Blaster Live! (its connected externally to the video card) or could it be the source?

    Thanks..

I get occasional pops and clicks sometimes when capturing but they are not transferred to the file, have you checked the captured footage to see if they are present on the file?

Yes, one capture I had of the Nextel All Star event, there was clicks and pops transfered to the file. Also my captures of Adult Swim/Toonami on Saturday nights have the same problem.

Today I have an audio sync problem which I think is Speed TV's issue, not mine. They had some sync problems with the audio last year for the 24hrs of Le Mans since they are using a World Feed, there own cameras and trucks in the pits and pit reporters.

I'm going to try the internal connection and see if that solves the problem.

Any other suggestions? I have never had this many problems before...

Only other thing I can think of is I updated the video drivers with the next to last update, I wonder if that is causing the problems now.

    I just checked -

The audio is out of sync on here and not the direct connection to the TV.

I think it might be a driver issue...

Try capturing with HuffYUV and then encode to the format of your liking

Its listed in the capture info and I NEVER had problems before now.

The only thing I can think of is when I upgraded all the drivers for the card and the capture driver.

I looked on Rage3d and a few people have had the same problem with the last couple of driver releases. I kept all the driver downloads.

Maybe I'll just revert back to what I had before this issue. The connection and everything else is the same.

I think I figured it out, but Im going to wait until later to redo is all.

When I first installed the card I went to the ATI site and downloaded 4.1 drivers and MMC 9.01

I have been steadly updating the drivers when a new one was released.

The problem seems to be with CAT 5.6 which I believe is the last update I made which I guess switches the audio from analog to digital and that would explain the sync problems but maybe not the clicks and pops, but I'm going to go back to what I started with and since I haven't seen any increased performance with any of the updates I have made since Im just going to stop with those.

Sometimes updating your drivers causes a bunch of unintended problems.

    Confirmed - Problem sovled!

I un-installed everything, went back to drive build 4.9 and using MMC 9.06 (9.08 now)

    Clicking and Pops are gone!

I think that was the problem, they took out the analog driver files and put in digital ones. I think to use that I need to connect the card directly to the sound card internally.

I'll try that when I build my HTPC later this summer.

  9. First, thanks for reporting back on results and thusly creating useful data!

Interesting on the digital conversion in the drivers. Not sure how this would work.

Interesting that during my brief testing of Digital Audio capture - The time where my Philips digital audio card worked, which was right before I found out it could not capture AC-3 directly, and then the card died - anyways, I used to get a fair amount of random clicks and a very rhythmic pop that happened about every 10 seconds. Had cable tech on site, he heard it but had no explanation. At that time, only digital audio I had was thru computer. Now I have digital amp but switched to satellite which has no digital output! Ain't life grand?

    Shop on Ebay.

I picked up a RCA Direct TV box with component output, Dolby Digital (coaxial and opitcal output. The model is DRD486, I got it for $50

I'm going to use it with my LCD TV when I buy it later this summer, that's the main reason I have it. But you can get other RCA boxes with Dolby Digital Out
