  1. I've been using FCE HD for a couple of months. Though there is much I can still learn about the program, I've become proficient enough to perform the basic editing tasks I need to do.

How hard is it to migrate from FCE to the full FCP version? Is there a large learning curve? I am assuming that most of the basic functionality in FCE is essentially the same in FCP. Am I correct in assuming that the interface is basically the same in both programs with just enhanced capabilities in FCP?

I would like to begin using DVDSP. I can either purchase DVDSP alone and continue to use FCE HD. Or I can go all the way and just purchase Final Cut Studio and get the whole enchilada. The cost is not the limiting factor since I can qualify for the academic discount.

    John,
You are correct in assuming that there is somewhat of
a learning curve, and depending on your ability to
get frustrated easy or not, and if you have the time,
that will determine your ability to grasp the program.

FCE is a stripped down version of FCP.
    the diffrences are listed here:

but for all inents, if you have a grasp on FCE, you can easily
grasp the basics of FCP quickly.

And while either program can work well with DVDSP,
you do get a better price break buying the whole studio,
instead of just 2 apps. Go for buying the whole
enchilada, if you can afford to do so.

Man O' Man. Once you get into DVDSP, you'll wonder how you lived without it.
