It's very unclear what you want to do - Just back them up? In that case, just copy them to another place on your HDD, or burn them as data to a recordable CD or DVD.
But perhaps you want to convert them into something watchable using a DVD player? In that case, head over to the convert section, search under AVI to DVD. Or am I completely at the wrong track?

No your right (ther are 3 avi video files and 3 subtitles), i want to watch them on my dvd, create menu, chapters and stuff. how do i back them all up as a dvd with the subtitles? i have dvd lad pro but dont know how to use it yet. will this work with avi's? or is it a easier way to do what i want to do? TY

You will need to get a DVD authoring program that accepts subtitles, of which DVD Lab Pro is an example.
Convert your AVI and audio to DVD compliant streams, import the audio video and subtitle streams into DVD lab, build project, compile, burn.
Guides for all these procedures can be found on this site. -
...or if you want a free solution, DVDAuthorGUI, GUI for DVDAuthor, IfoEdit are options.

i downloaded avi to dvd and when i went to convert, it wen from 230 mb to like 7 or 800 mb. i wanted to know is that normal? is it a way to make it about the same size?? TY
-
Yep, that is about normal. The reason is that for Xvid and divx you need to generally use 3-4x the bitrate of the AVI on the MPEG to retain a similar quality, resulting in the filesize of the MPEG also being rough 3-4x the AVI. You could make the MPEG the same size if you wished, but if you kept a DVD-compliant resolution I can almost guarantee it will look crap
If in doubt, Google it.
